For those of you tired of playing Dead Rising in Overtime mode for the 80th time, or dusting off your copy of Cold Fear or, God forbid, Land of the Dead: Fiddler's Green (you are in SERIOUS jonesing trouble if you're playing that turd again), worry no longer because there are some new zombie game titles coming out soon and they look amazing.
LEFT 4 DEAD
On November 17th, Valve (creators of Half-Life) will unleash the survival FPS Left 4 Dead for the PC and XBOX 360, powered by the Counter Strike: Source engine. Set after a zombie apocalpse, L4D will allow up to four players to roam a city of the undead and fight to stay alive amongst the zombie hordes. While it''s always fun to walk around solo knocking off zombies, the cooperative multiplayer gameplay is already winning acclaim. Working together to survive not only means more people joining in on the fun of mowing down zombies, but also is a an unique experience to zombie survival games. Replay value should reach new heights with the new "AI Director" which will alter the zombie spawn points and make each level new everytime you re-play one.
DEAD ISLAND
Available sometime this year, Techland will release Dead Island to the PC and XBOX 360, a non-linear FPS which allows you to take anything from the environment and use it to kill the zombies that live on the island where you''ve just crash-landed. It''s like taking the best part of Dead Rising (killing zombies with whatever is laying around) and pushing that to the forefront. No multiplayer, so far, is planned for Dead Island, so this is one game you can to enjoy all by youself.
RESIDENT EVIL 5
Of course, you zombie die-hards probabably know that 2009 will be the year of Resident Evil 5, slated for release on March 13 (Friday) for the 360 and PS3. This time, Chris Redfield has traveled all the way to Africa to investigate a brand new threat. This entry into the series offers an online 2 player cooperative level allowing you to play as Chris or new partner Sheva Alomar. The standard in zombie gameplay for years, this game has a lot to live up to (sorry).
