Chemical 12-D (2009)

We have the unique pleasure of watching many bad zombie films.  Bad zombie films are not unlike their "bad movie" counterparts.  The rare few are so bad that they have an uncanny appeal and manage to be enjoyable for reasons not intended by the film makers.  A couple examples would be Zombie Death House, Hell's Ground and Dead Heat. Most bad zombie movies are just, well, bad. The kind fast forward buttons were designed to support.  And, as a result, we wish they were much, much shorter.

Chemical 12-D is not a bad zombie film.  It is a short zombie film.  A short film we wish was longer.

The movie begins with a zombie outbreak already underway.  Dr. Michael Frank spends his days desperately searching for a serum that will cure the infected.  Believing he has finally discovered a cure, he makes another attempt to captue a zombie and test his latest serum - Chemical 12-D.

No reason to put you under. You're already a zombie.

Written and directed by Mac Eldridge, Chemical 12-D is surprisingly well produced.  The sound production, lighting and gore effects are spot on.  The pacing is perfectly suited for the movie's short length. Most importantly, Chemical 12-D delivers an ending that is both surprising and thought provoking.  It's not the kind of ending you see in most zombie movies made these days which is a shame.

Chemical 12-D has played a number of horror and short movie festivals.  We hope this movie gets the attention it deserves.
