Remember Ali Larter kicking zombie ass in Resident Evil: Extinction? Me neither, but she was in it. She's also in Resident Evil: Afterlife, though it sounds like 'ol Claire will stay the survivalist she played in Extinction.
Claire is fiercer than ever, but there is also a greater depth to her than we’ve seen before because of the experiences she’s had and the challenges she faces in this movie. One of the great things with Claire is that, in the video game she shows the human component. People can relate to someone who doesn’t have "powers" dealing with a situation like this. Alice is like this mythic, god-like figure, so Claire is the human component. I think that gives people a way to live out their fantasies of an apocalypse.
In this film, Claire has been stripped down to her barest survival instincts, in the most primal of ways. One of the things that Paul really brought into this film is the family dynamic. I think people are really going to love and respond to that.
Yawn...killing zombies is what people respond to, Ali, but as usual it looks like Paul W.S. Anderson will look to Milla Jovovich and her amazing superpowers to do all the zombie-killing. Too bad. Ironically, it's working with Anderson that brought Larter back for Afterlife (besides a paycheck and a chance to miss 7 weeks of Heroes, one of TV's most painful falls from grace ever).
I shot the last one, but I was excited to come back because Paul was directing. He didn’t direct the last one, and to me, he really brought back the fire to this franchise. This is the biggest budget of all the Resident Evil films, and they are bringing in the 3D cameras. He got me excited about the arc he was building for Claire in this one, and the journey she would go on. And I was excited to work with Milla again.
I think this installment of Resident Evil is the most directly connected to the video games. I’m wearing Claire’s outfit. We have the Axe Man, and different characters from the video game are throughout this movie. I think that will really excite the fans.
Larter in Claire's outfit? Okay, I guess. They got Jill Valentine's outfit right in Resident Evil: Apocalypse and that one was TERRIBLE, but, axe man? Now we're talking.
