Director Marc Forster Says WORLD WAR Z Will Stay "True to the Spirit" of the Book

Ok, so by now you're probably aware that Paramount's adaptation of World War Z isn't going to run with the flashback structure of the novel, as revealed in a recent plot synopsis. Director Marc Forster has said that he thinks that zombies make a great "political commentary", which is nice to know, but how does he explain changing the book so drastically? He explained that the movie will stay true to "the spirit of [Max Brooks'] book" in a recent interview with MTV, which is another way of saying that the movie won't follow the book much at all.

Feel better now? Us neither. We understood that any director would have to put the action in the present, but it's a shame that J. Michael Straczynski's draft was abandoned since he was able to keep a flashback structure in place, and started the narrative in the present, after the zombies had been eradicated. Credit on the script was solely given by the studio to Matthew Michael Carnahan, who re-wrote Straczynski's script.

We'll see what Forster's done with the movie once a trailer is released or, truly, when the movie opens on December 21, 2012.
