EVIL DEAD to Shoot in New Zealand Next March

Now that Sony Pictures is going to distribute the remake of Evil Dead, the remake is now getting scheduled for production. For anyone still harboring anger over a Evil Dead remake, it's time to get over it. Of course, I'm talking about myself.

Bloody-Disgusting reports that the remake will start shooting in New Zealand next March. That's a step up from a shitty old cabin in Tennessee! Fede Alvarez will direct from a script he co-wrote with Rodo Sayagues and subsequently rewritten by Diablo Cody (Juno). Sam Raimi, Sam Tapert, and Bruce Campbell will produce, if that makes the whole remake easier to swallow.

Essentially the same plot of the original Evil Dead, the remake reportedly adds a drug addiction sub plot (Bloody-Disgusting originally reported the sub-plot and so deserves all credit if they're right and blame if they are wrong). According to the report, casting for the remake will now begin casting the following characters: "David, Natalie, Eric, Olivia, and Mia. David is a mechanic and is engaged to Natalie. Mia is the friend who is heading to the cabin to detox; Olivia is her best friend/nurse. Eric, presumably, is the kid who unleashes the demons."

According to Cody, the remake is "really scary" and "true to the original." Cody also says that her work on the script was strictly to flesh out characters and relationships and not to "make some hip trendy horror movie full of pop culture references." That's a relief.
