With Shiloh Fernandez cast in the movie last week, Film District has filled another role with Jane Levy (Suburgatory) in the remake of Evil Dead. Levy takes over the role of Mia, initially cast with Lily Collins until she realized that it probably suck as hard as her oeuvre - Abduction, Priest and the upcoming Mirror, Mirror - so she quit. There was also something about "scheduling conflicts" as well.
Mia is the new Ash - recovering from drug addiction, she travels with her brother David (Fernandez) and 3 others to a remote cabin where they find the Book of the Dead and unleash demonic spirits. Fede Alvarez is directing and co-wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues, while Diablo Cody did rewrites. The movie starts shooting this March in New Zealand and opens April 12, 2013. Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Robert Tapert will produce. [Deadline]
