New EVIL DEAD Movie is a Reality Says Bruce Campbell

[UPDATE:] Ghost House Pictures has officially announced that Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert and Bruce Campbell are producing a Evil Dead remake with Fede Alvarez directing. The producers talked about the remake in a statement (via THR).

We are committed to making this movie and are inspired by the enduring popularity and enthusiasm for the Evil Dead series. We can't wait to scare a new generation of moviegoers using filmmaking techniques that were not available to us thirty years ago as well as Fede bringing a fresh eye to the film’s original elements.

Alvarez co-wrote the initial script with Rodo Sayagues. Diablo Cody is doing rewrites. Yes, that Diablo Cody. Campbell Tweeted in support of the Jennifer's Body screenwriter.

Go Diablo, go! Write like the wind!

It's happening! Dread Central reports that production on a fourth Evil Dead is happening and that long-time Sam Raimi editor Bob Murawski is heading for Detroit to work on it. Apparently, the fourth Evil Dead will be a "small indie thing like the first two."

Will Raimi direct? Answer's no on that one, according to Bloody-Disgusting, who report that Federico (Fede) Alvarez will direct what they describe as a "quasi-sequel." Raimi will produce, but there's no word on whether Bruce Campbell will appear as well. Campbell took to his Twitter to respond to a follower about what he is calling a "remake."

@Mike31 Believe in the remake, dawg! The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell.

Let's hope he's right. In the meantime, here's the short Panic Attack from Alvarez.
