So, perhaps I am too cynical, but when Dimension decided to push off the upcoming sequel Piranha 3DD from its Thanksgiving to a date unknown, I saw it as a sign that the movie was doomed to a straight-to-disc fate, but I was wrong. According to STYD, Piranha 3DD will not only arrive in theaters, but in the summer, on June 1st. That puts Piranha 3DD up against Snow White and the Huntsman, Universal's tentpole Snow White adaptation.
Certainly better than Thanksgiving, it could be a good weekend for Piranha 3DD, but obviously a roll of the dice. Alexandre Aja's Piranha was a modest hit, and the Feast creative team of director John Gulager and screenwriter Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton aren't exactly going to help put asses in the seats. Of course, the main draw will be the swimsuit-clad bodes being devoured by prehistoric piranha, and the summer release will definitely bring in the high school kiddies. Shrewd or stupid, we're looking forward to the movie, as evidenced in the trailer below.
