Last we heard about the fifth Resident Evil movie, Milla Jovovich Tweeted to her followers that the next sequel, titled Resident Evil: Retribution, was being written by her husband and RE collaborator Paul W.S. Anderson that would include "a HUGE surprise abt the origin of Alice" and claimed that "the zombies r goin 2 the nxt level!" While that's comforting, giving zombies more than 5 minutes of screen time would be nice. Maybe the "next level" is a going overboard.
Sony Screen Gems already scheduled the sequel for a September 14, 2012, release date in March, and STYD reports that Retribution will start shooting on October 10 with shooting to take place in Toronto, Canada, and Tokyo, Japan. There's still no word whether Anderson will direct, but it's likely he will only write and produce as he did for Apocalypse and Extinction.
Sienna Guillory is set to return as Jill Valentine, which will come as no surprise for anyone who saw the end of Afterlife.
