A remake of The Crow is under way and 28 Weeks Later director, Juan Fresnadillo, will take the reigns. The remake is being produced by Relativity Media who is also partnering with original producers Edward R Pressman and Jeff Most, among others. According to The Guardian, a spokesman for Reletivity Media told Variety, "We are thrilled to have [Fresnadillo] at the helm ... on what we all believe will be a compelling and innovative reimagining of The Crow." Production will begin this fall. No talent has been attached to the film as of yet.
The remake of The Crow provides evidence of Hollywood's interest in rebooting newer classics in the horror genre. Rob Zombie's remakes of Halloween and Halloween 2 were each made approximately 30 years after the originals. As we previously reported, a remake of Fright Night is nearing the end of production 26 years after the original. The Crow was made a scant 17 years ago.
Could we be on the verge of seeing movies remade in under 10 years? Maybe sub 5 years? Only time will tell but we would like to be the first to recommend George Romero's Diary of the Dead? There HAS to be a way to make that movie better.
