Tobe Hooper is set to direct an Arabian horror movie titled Djinn. Filming is set to begin in the United Arab Emirates in March.
The script was penned by U.S. writer David Tully and tells the story of an Emirati couple who return home from the U.S. and discover that their new apartment in a luxury high-rise built on the site of an abandoned fishing village is also home to malevolent beings known as Djinn.
In 2008 Shahin Sean Solimon released an Arabian fantasy movie with the same name. Solimon's Djinn was of the more traditional "evil genie" variety. We were not able to find any related articles that would indicate if Hooper's "malevolent beings" are really just pissed off genies.
Hooper said: "Simply put, this movie will scare everyone, no matter where you live or what you believe in." It isn't that we doubt Hooper's comments but after seeing The Mangler we can't help but have trepidation.
