Tommy Wirkola's follow up to his 2009 Nazi zombie flick Dead Snow, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, is getting its cast together in time for Paramount's recently announced release date. Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton were cast in the title roles last month. with Famke Janssen recently being cast as the leader of the witches.
Deadline reports the movie is getting a $60 million budget and will arrive in 3-D March 2, 2012. MGM will help co-finance now that their bankrupt restructuring has allowed to somehow free up some funds. Wish I could do the same.
As the title suggests, Hansel and Gretel will follow adult versions of the Brothers Grimm characters, who now take revenge on the witches that tried to eat them. After being huge fans of Dead Snow, we're looking forward to what Wirkola does with his follow-up, and with his upcoming TV show as well.
Bloody-Disgusting reports that Wirkola will work on the TV show Hell Fjord, which an unorthodox policeman in small town in Finland where the gate to hell may be located. With a start date of May, it looks like Wirkola will start Fjord after finishing production on Hansel and Gretel.
