About time...
Progress is finally being made with Dead Island, a game that was announced back in 2007. We noticed the game on our inception in 2008 due to its trailer that showed gameplay that looked like a mix between Dead Rising and Far Cry. Instead of guns, players would have to scrounge around the island for anything that will work as a weapon in order to take out the zombies, and the prospect was exciting. Problem was, developer Techland has been taking forever developing the game, but the results of their work are looking very promising.
IGN has seen an early build of the game, and have nothing but positives to offer. Techland calls the game a "first-person zombie-slasher/action-RPG," which is certainly ambitious. Set on a island resort in Papa New Guinea, players can choose to play as one of several survivors, who will work to survive the zombie outbreak and leave the island. Co-op gameplay will exist for up to 4 players, all of whom can build up their characters stats and abilities throughout the game. Dead Island is scheduled for a 2011 release on XBOX 360, PC and PS3, and has an amazing new trailer that will excite even the casual viewer.
