Amber Heard is becoming quite the scream queen lately. Heard has two horror movies in theaters currently: Zombieland (she plays Jesse Eisenberg's neighbor) and The Stepfather, which opens today, and is the remake of the 1987 movie that starred Lost's John Locke (Terry O'Quinn) as an evil, well, stepfather, that spawned two sequels.
Next year, Heard will appear in the horror/thriller And Soon the Darkness and John Carpenter's The Ward, his first film since the 2001 crapfest, Ghosts of Mars. Heard spoke to Collider about a few of her upcoming slate of movies, saying that she's not suprised by Zombieland's success.
It’s a good movie. I’m not surprised at all. I knew it would be good when I read the script, however, I only had a couple of days. The director called me and said, look can we make this cameo for you? Can we make it work? And I said, I only have 2 days. He said we’ll make it work then. And I had a great time doing it and I’m glad I got to be a disgusting zombie because I’m so… you can only be the pretty girl so much, you know? It’s good to kind of have a good time with yourself and not take it so seriously.
Heard was busy working on The Ward, though she's finished now.
I already wrapped on that movie, yeah, I’m working with a horror legend, which is great for me because clearly it’s a genre I love. And I couldn’t be more honored to be working with somebody who’s made a name for himself doing this genre, and it’s a good script. It’s a fantastic story and having just shot it, I have nothing but high hopes for it because it can be fantastic.
We hope it will be fantastic too. Carpenter's yet to make a good movie since 1994's In the Mouth of Madness, and boy, do we want that guy to make a comeback. If nothing else, it should have a good score!
"Zombieland" is a proof that horror movies can really be funny. It wasn't just the violent humor, but the little sidetrips for twinkies and Bill Murray's zombie makeup that sent this film into zombie heaven.:)))))))
